Trogir
Trogir, a harmonious stone town on a small island that is connected to the
mainland and the island of Ciovo by bridges. The old town, under UNESCO
protection, is a treasure trove for lovers of art, Renaissance and Baroque
buildings, Romanesque churches.
It is called the town-museum which is visible in the famous portal of Trogir
cathedral by the craftsman Radovan in 1240, a Renaissance city lodge, the
thousand year old Monastery of sv. Nikola [St. Nicholas] which has the ancient
famous relief of Kairos preserved in it from the 4th century BC.
The small, narrow streets and small village squares, numerous restaurants,
cafes, souvenir shops and galleries, along with numerous cultural and music open
air events give this town a special atmosphere of the Mediterranean.
Kastela
Kastela can be compared with the most pretty and most interesting places in Europe, the Saxon King wrote in his memoirs early in the 19th century.
Kastela are picturesque small towns in central Dalmatia near Split, Trogir and Solin. Todays Kastela developed around seven small villages which used to be fortresses (Kastela) and villages with fortified walls beside the coast. Kastelas town museum is in the famous stone castle of Vitturi, which was built in the 16th century. It looks as though it has risen up out of the sea, and is connected to the land by a small bridge.
The main part of the castle is the famous Vitturi park, an example of garden culture and one of the most beautiful parks in the whole of Dalmatia. The bible garden in Kastel Novi, the botanical garden in Kastel Luksic and the town museum in Kastel bear witness to the interesting and rich history of the beautiful fortresses.
Split
This eternally young city with around 200 thousand inhabitants has lived its urban rhythm for 1700 years with Diocletian's palace at its heart, which is also the historical centre of the city and a UNESCO world heritage site. The Cathedral of sv. Dujam [St. Domnios], the patron saint of Split, is located in the mausoleum of Emperor Diocletian, and its sumptuous interior is a gathering place for many of the faithful and tourists. Many valuable monuments of culture are located outside the walls of Diocletians Palace (Renaissance Prokurative Square, palaces, churches, museums).
Located in the warmest part of the northern Mediterranean coast, in the very centre of the Adriatic coast, this tourist, economic and sports (Goran Ivanisevic, Branka Vlasic, Toni Kukoc) region guards its green soul on Marjan hill, where a forest park near the city offers a comfortable and quiet atmosphere and a walk far from the town noise.
The rich offer for tourists as well as the unique cultural heritage and many cultural and tourist events gives Split its special charm and makes it an ideal holiday destination throughout the year.
Hvar
The centre of the sunniest Croatian island of the same name - Hvar is a unique blend of luxurious Mediterranean natural surroundings, layer upon layer of a rich cultural and historical heritage and sophisticated tourism. Located in picturesque natural surroundings on the south side of the island, surrounded by mighty medieval walls, magical fields and the scent of lavender, Hvar is a never-ending treasure of monumental heritage, culture and atmospheres.
Its name originates from the word PHAROS - the Greek name for the island of Hvar and the town which was formerly in the place of the present Stari Grad (the Old Town) from which it took over the title as island centre in the 13th century. From its castle Spanjol, high above the town, majestic views open up over the green Pakleni otoci (the Hell Islands) (ACI Marina Palmizana) and the open sea.
The main city square in front of the cathedral by the Arsenal and the oldest European theatre from the 17th century are a favourite gathering place for tourists. Many museums hide valuable works of art (The Last Supper from the 15th century in the dining room of the Franciscan Monastery) and the Benedictine Monastery, famous for its lace making from agave fibres, is often visited.
Supetar
The biggest settlement and ferry port on the island of Brac, Supetar, is one of the major tourist centres in Dalmatia. It is situated in the northern part of the island in the Bay of Saint Peter, which gave the town its name.
Supetar is the ideal destination for all those who wish to enjoy the rich heritage of the island and the continental part of Central Dalmatia, relaxing at the same time in the charms of an island town.
Concerts, theatrical performances, folklore evenings and numerous other events are organised as part of the Supetar Cultural Summer. The museum of the island of Brac in the old house of the Radojkovic family bears witness to the rich history of picturesque villages which attract tourists with their simplicity and tranquillity.
Bol
The Zlatni rat beach spreads to the west of Bol and is one of the biggest and most beautiful natural beaches on the Adriatic. Like a tongue stretching almost half a kilometre into the sea, it grows with the drifting deposits of tiny pebbles, changing its shape depending on the wind and the direction of the waves. Bol is a paradise for surfers because of the favourable wind, which always blows.
There is an array of high-class hotel complexes and private apartments along the beach and the coastal promenade.In the vicinity of the town centre are a baroque summer house, castle, parish church and the small square “pjaceta”.
On the eastern side, a Dominican monastery, one of the most beautiful in Europe, rises on the Glavici peninsula.Only two hours walk from Bol are sites of exceptional value - the Blaca desert (church and monastery from the 16th century) and Zmajeva spilja (a cave rich in reliefs, and home to Glagolitic priests).
Omis
The picturesque town of Omis is situated at the mouth of the Cetina river, the centre of the Omis Riviera, and surrounded by small fishing villages with beautiful beaches.
In this very small area it is possible to see many cultural and historical sites (churches that date back 10th and 18th centuries, monuments, forts, museums, etc.). And for those who like active holidays, Omis is the right destination - rafting on the Cetina river, free climbing, paragliding, scuba diving, sailing, beach volleyball, tennis, etc.
The ancient Roman cities of Split and Salona are just half an hours drive from Omis, and the beautiful central Dalmatian islands are at your fingertips. Significant cultural events are the Omis Summer Festival, the Dalmatian ACappella Festival, pirate evenings and other festivals.
